The menu of the System Settings.
The System Settings is a menu within the Nintendo 3DS family of consoles, and the successor to Wii Settings. There is also a variant for different settings online called the Nintendo Network ID Settings. The menu allows the player to adjust settings for the system.
Design[]
The system settings menu has a weirdly nostalgic look to it, with a mix of beige and grey as the background, and the calming music behind it.
On the bottom screen, it displays 5 buttons (6 in later versions), Internet settings, Parental Controls, Data Management, Other Settings, "Close", and Nintendo Network ID settings in later versions. The icon for the System Settings is a wrench.
Internet Settings[]
Opening Internet Settings gives the user 4 buttons, Connection Settings, SpotPass, Nintendo DS Connections, and "Other Information". Opening Connection Settings gives the user a list of the 3 connections on the 3DS's NAND. Most people have 1. Pressing "New Connection" makes the Settings Helper say a line of text. "Would you like me to setup your internet Connection?" With 2 buttons, Manual Setup and Tutorial. Pressing MS gives the user the buttons Search for an Access Point, "AOSS", "WI-FI PROTECTOR SETUP", Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector and Manual Setup. Pressing Search for an Access point Retrieves a list of all access points in the area. It will detect the Access Point's Security type and will sometimes ask the user to enter a password/Security Key. Pressing AOSS gives some text saying "Confirm that you are using an AOSS-compatible access point, then press the AOSS button on the access point until the AOSS light flashes. This process may take up to 90 seconds." It's unknown what happens after that screen. Pressing Protector Setup gives buttons displaying 2 types of connections the user can use. "Push-Button Connection" and "PIN Connection". Pressing on any gives the text "Confirm that the access point is Wi-Fi Protected Setup-compatible, then press and hold the access point's Wi-Fi Protected Setup button until it's wireless indicator LED blinks. It may take up to 2 minutes to complete this setup." Instead of pressing Manual Setup, if the user presses Tutorial, The Helper gives a short tutorial.
"Please answer the following: Where will you connect to the internet? Details: To connect to a wireless access point at a shop, station or other place, touch Other.
Other - Home"
"Okay, let's find and set up an access point. If anything's unclear, please touch me."
If the user press an existing connection from the list, they get 3 options, Change settings, Delete settings and Connection test. They all speak for themselves. Pressing SpotPass at the beginning Gives 2 buttons, Automatic Software Downloads and Sending of Usage Information. Pressing any will give a yes/no select screen. Pressing Nintendo DS Connections sends the user into the DS Mode, where they can edit their DS connections. Pressing Other Information gives 2 buttons, User Agreement and Confirm MAC address. The user agreement gives the 3DS User agreement policy, and Confirm MAC address will just give the user their MAC address.
Parental Controls[]
Pressing Parental Controls when the user opens up settings will give 4 options, Parental Control settings, Change PIN, Change Email Address and Clear settings. Pressing Parental Control Settings will let the user change what software is permitted and various other things. Change PIN lets the user change their PIN. Change Email address lets the user change their email address, and clear settings lets the user clear their settings.
Data Management[]
Pressing Data Management gives 4 buttons, Nintendo 3DS, DSiWare, StreetPass Management, and Reset blocked-user settings. Pressing 3DS lets the user backup the save data and/or delete various forms of software, Including Extra Data and Add-On content. Pressing DSiWare does the same thing, but with DSiWare. Pressing StreetPass Management lets the user Manage software titles using StreetPass Functionality. Reset Blocked user settings lets the user reset their list of blocked online and Miiverse Users.

Other Settings has 4 Pages of settings, which includes:
