Fire Emblem: Awakening (Fire Emblem: Kakusei in Japan) is a strategy role-playing game and an installment in the Fire Emblem series. It was first rumored for there to be two Fire Emblem games named Blue Sacred Sword and Red Demon Lance, until it was officially confirmed at Nintendo's 2011 3DS Conference, albeit as one game. [1] [2]

Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, it was released April 19, 2012 in Japan and will be later that year in Europe, and has Nintendo Network support, allowing for downloading of additional content. [3] [4] [5]

On June 6, 2012, Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's president and chief operator, confirmed to IGN that the game will be arriving to the United States, but did not gave a specific date when will the game arrive.

Gameplay

The story follows Krom, the prince of the Kingdom of Iris, as he struggles during a turbulent era. [6] The player controls him, in addition to a custom-made character, who has amnesia when he is awakened, and others. [7] The game features elements from past games, such as a traversable world map and Special Skills. One can also perform a team-up attack with a support character. Characters from past titles in the series will return as well, such as Marth from Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Tsurugi, Roy from Fire Emblem: Fūin no Tsurugi, and Leaf from Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, who are obtainable through DLC. [8] [9]

The title features three difficulty settings, such as Casual Style, which makes the game easier, and Classic Style, which features all the standard features of the series, including the permanent death of allies. [10] The game's "Dual Tag” mode allows for multiplayer and the ability to play with friends in co-op battles via local wireless. StreetPass allows the player to exchange your custom character with others, while SpotPass is used to gain new maps. [11]

Reception

Awakening was the top-selling game in Japan on its week of release, selling 242,600 units, and even being sold out at some stores. [12]
